Behind the Scenes #01 – Task Force 47 Greyhound

Something is coming to Starbase 398… Before the next Hawkins Trek Legacy story reaches the website, we thought we would show you something we normally keep hidden. The messy part.

For our upcoming Task Force 47 "Greyhound" operation, we teamed up with NYX, who has been helping us take our starships beyond Star Trek Online and bring them into fully realised scenes of their own.

And for once, you get to look over her shoulder before you see the finished result.

Working with NYX quickly became much more than simply handing over a list of ships and waiting for a finished image. There were models to prepare, ships to position, scales to adjust, and plenty of tiny details that most people will probably never notice in the final scene. But we will and she will too.

Some of those details go right down to the individual ships themselves. Names. Registries. Hull markings. The little things that turn a model into our Avalon, Lexington, or Endeavour.

And yes, we have been watching the whole thing happen live.

That has given us a rather unusual front-row seat to the process and a much greater appreciation for just how much work goes into a single finished shot.

It has also given us ideas. This may have been unfortunate for NYX. Because somewhere along the way, she rather kindly took Hawkins Trek Legacy under her wing. And once we realised what was possible, Task Force 47 "Greyhound" started becoming considerably more ambitious.

We're not going to show you the finished scenes just yet. Those belong to the story. But soon, these unfinished Blender views will become something very different.

Seven ships are being prepared. Starbase 398 is waiting. And Task Force 47 "Greyhound" is on its way.
