Behind the Scenes #02 – Rebuilding the Hawkins Family Tree

It started with a family tree. When Hawkins Trek Legacy began in February, we created a simple family tree to keep track of names, generations, and relationships. Since then, the family has grown by exactly one person. The project, however, has changed quite a bit. As Hawkins Trek Legacy developed its own visual identity, the original family tree started to feel increasingly out of place. The information was still there, but visually, it no longer felt like part of the universe we were building.

So naturally, instead of making a small update, we rebuilt the entire thing. Because apparently... that's how we do things here.

Starting Over

The goal was simple: make the relationships easier to follow while giving the family tree a visual style that actually belongs in Hawkins Trek Legacy.

The new version introduces a completely redesigned layout, clearer visual distinctions between characters, a dedicated treatment for family members who are no longer alive, and, for the first time, character portraits.

What started as a collection of boxes and connecting lines is becoming a proper visual archive of the family behind the legacy. And yes. All of this happened because we needed to add one person.
