U.S.S. Aquitania

NCC-93248 Hydra-Class destroyer

Construction and Development

The U.S.S. Aquitanina is a Hydra-class destroyer commissioned in late 2410, during renewed instability along the Federation's borders. After decades of conflict with the Borg, Dominion, and other powers, Starfleet developed the Hydra-class to replace the aging Prometheus-class.

Built at the Laikan Starfleet Shipyards, the class combined advanced automation with decades of combat experience. Unlike earlier Starfleet vessels, the Hydra-class was designed with a more aggressive appearance: a narrow forward profile, swept armor plating, and an angular hull that gave it the look of a hunter rather than an explorer.

Aquitanina's hull used reinforced ablative tritanium-duranium armor over a compact frame. Key systems—including the warp core, shield generators, and command processors—were distributed across all three sections to maximize survivability in Multi-Vector Assault Mode.

The ship was also designed to operate with a very small crew. Extensive automation handled engineering, defense, and logistics, allowing Aquitanina to carry out missions that normally required a much larger crew while remaining harder to detect and easier to support during long deployments.

Primary Function

The U.S.S. Aquitanina is a heavily armed tactical assault vessel designed for rapid-strike operations, border defense, and high-risk combat deployments. As one of the first Hydra-class starships to enter active service, the Aquitanina was designed to continue the combat legacy of the legendary Prometheus-class while adapting it to the realities of the early 25th century.

Her primary missions include:

  • Rapid assault operations against hostile fleets and fortified targets
  • Interception of raiders, pirates, and enemy strike groups in Federation territory
  • Tactical escort for high-value convoys, starbases, and diplomatic vessels

The Hydra-class inherited the feared Multi-Vector Assault Mode from the Prometheus-class. In combat, the Aquitanina can divide into three independent tactical sections, each capable of acting separately under coordinated computer control. This ability allows the vessel to attack from multiple directions simultaneously, overwhelm enemy targeting systems, and continue fighting even if one section is disabled.

Maiden Voyage

The U.S.S. Aquitanina entered service in early 2411 under the command of Captain Dean Eckhart, who was tasked with leading the first operational deployment of the new Hydra-class.

Her maiden mission took place near the former Neutral Zone, where several Federation outposts had come under attack from unidentified raiders using advanced cloaking systems. Investigating the attacks, the Aquitanina traced the hostile force to a hidden base concealed within the debris field of a shattered moon.

During the engagement, the Aquitanina activated Multi-Vector Assault Mode for the first time in live combat. Separating into three independently operating sections, the ship attacked the raiders from multiple directions at once. Within minutes, the enemy formation collapsed, the base was disabled, and the captured Federation personnel were recovered safely. The success of the operation quickly established the Hydra-class as a capable successor to the Prometheus-class.

By the end of 2411, command of the Aquitanina was transferred to Captain Kra'thamar Hawkins following his recent promotion to captain. Hawkins had been recommended for the assignment due to his cold tactical style and his exceptional record commanding smaller strike vessels.
